About
I have this bizarre innate need to tell stories.
That's the whole thing, really. The medium keeps changing — film, photographs, records, coffee brands, iOS apps, a hardcore band, restaurants that never existed — but the need underneath it doesn't. I've invested my money, my effort, and most of all my time into knowing how a story gets made. How to capture a look, a feel, an image, a moment.
For a long time I was fractured about where any of it lived. Work scattered across platforms and hard drives and dead links, most of it lost to the sands of the digital space. Five hundred hours of video get uploaded every minute. It is very easy to decide none of yours matters.
None of that derails the need. So a few years ago I decided to consolidate and combine. Less stuff, less clutter, less mess. Somewhere to hold the work as something I made, rather than an anchor holding me back from the next thing.
This site is that.
The tools got cheap, which I think is the best thing that ever happened to this work. A camera is just a tool in the shed — I take care of mine, and I push them until they give me what I saw in my head. What matters is what you do with the images once you have them. What tone. What mood. What position you take in the story.
I'm not precious about any of it. And I think I'm finally starting to realise that I am really good at what I do.
